Checkered Flag - Review 2

This game came with my trusty jag as a pack in when I ordered from tiger direct (jaguar, T2K, IS, Kasumi, CF, flip-out and Cybermorph for $50.00) At the time I looked at the back of the box and didn’t even bother to play it until I was burned out on T2K and Iron Solder. Well eventually I came around to playing CF and became fixed on beating the controls and cheap A.I. that were taunting me.

No Story: Hey, I guess you figured, this racer has no plot (such as Mario cart or Crash Team Racing), just win.

Settings and such: CF let’s you customize the weather, your cars tires, your transmission type, your wing settings, the lap count, car color, and the number of drones you race against.

Your car is VR model of a cart (Indy) style racer with hex-nut wheels, not the best-looking car in the world. The graphics of the various courses are nice with a desert, Arctic, and Forest type settings.

Game Play: There are many cool things you will remember in your gamming career (ha, I wish I could play for a living) Beating that high score with 1 credit, completing that RPG you have been playing for 3 years because you didn’t buy the cheat book, and the biggest of all, Completing a race in CF without crashing your car! I’m not kidding here, this game has the touchiest control I have ever seen, you will be fighting to keep your car from crashing every waking second and then that’s no good because the cheap A.I. Drones ram you off the road. I don’t know how else to explain it but this game is to hard and to easy at the same time.

Scores:

Graphics: 5.0 not to bad, the framerate is a bit slow and what’s with the hex-nut tires.

Fun Factor: 2.0 I tried, I really tried, this game is hard to like.

Sound: 9.0 tunes and sound are pretty good.

Final thoughts: This game like a few other jaguar games could have been so much more if the control and A.I. were more manageable. I had no choice in getting this game for it came with my system. You can find this game at K-BEE toys for 3 bucks. If you’re a hardcore collector get it, otherwise steer clear of this one.
