Zero 5

Telegames fifth post Atari release was Zero 5, developed by the folks at Caspian Software. Zero 5 is a three-dimensional shooter consisting of polygon graphics. The game opens with an impressive Zero 5 logo which rotates. Then you can either work with some of the several options they give you (when you first start I would probably go and bring the difficulty down to easy).

I know a good amount of noise was made regarding the games difficuly which I will address. While it is far from an easy game, with some perseverance you will probably be able to progress at a good rate. So I didn't find that to be a detractor, now into the game.

I found Zero 5 to be a very, very intense shooter. You will find that out with the relentless action from level one. Get ready to pound the controller, you will have to in order to survive. Another plus to the game is the way in which your missions vary, giving you a change. Level one is a level that involves constant shooting (and you are in a mode where you see your ship), level two puts you in the cockpit, while three involves mainly destroying and avoiding walls, at huge speeds!

Going into specific aspects of the game, graphically, the three-dimensional polygon graphics are some of the best on the Jaguar. The soundtrack involves an awesome techno track, which goes very well with such an intense shooter. The sound effects are also well executed, there are some voices and the explosions are very nice. Also, the option to adjust four different aspects of the sounds/music is nice, you can really customize it!

The gameplay takes a little getting used to. It seems a bit awkward at first, but give the game about ten minutes and it will seem like second nature. Once you get past that, I found the gameplay to be fine.

In conclusion, if you enjoy fast paced shooters you will really enjoy this one. It does come with a difficuly level, but it is able to be overcome. It is one of my favorite releases to this point, so if you enjoy this type of game, I would certainly take a hard look at this one.

Graphics: 9.5 Sound: 9.5 Gameplay: 8 Overall: 9.25
