Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure - Review 2

In the glory days of the 16-bit gaming Pitfall the Mayan adventure (PTMA) was one of the big showstopper platform games (along with earthworm Jim, Vectorman, and sonic). I am a big fan of these 2D style games (my fav being MegaMan series) PTMA is a very thrilling adventure on any system.

How they compare: Compared to other versions of this game the jaguar version is very well done with tight controls and nice color, I have the version on the PC as well and the jaguar version beats the pc version hands down.

The Game Play: You will jump, swing, ride, slide, swing, throw, duck, crawl, and anything else you could think of through this game. The game will frustrate at time to the point of turning the game off. The good part is that you can save your game after each board you have completed. You will find that every creature in the jungle is after you as you embark on your quest finding riches and weapons along the way. The plot isn’t very deep but the gameplay and the level design are top notch for its time.

Cheats:I don’t like cheats because they ruin gameplay and make us lazy but this one is okay:

Classic 2600 Pitfall:

1. At the main menu, select "Info"; press the C button 26 times,

Then press down.

Scores:

Graphics: 10.0 some say this is not 64-bit gaming but the graphics are arcade perfect.

Fun Factor: 9.0 this game are a blast even after you beat it. Sometimes a bit to hard.

Sound: 9.0 Nice sound effects, nice little mix.

Final thoughts: This game was pawned off as being a lowly 16-bit conversion. This is a game of high quality and fun factor and seeing that you can usually find it for under $20.00 makes it even better. I don’t play this game a whole lot but when I start playing it’s hard to put down.
